Your data, in plain words.

• We collect what you give us to use FarFlirt, such as your profile, photos and messages, plus a little technical data. We use it to run FarFlirt and to keep members safe.
• Who you'd like to meet can reveal your sexual orientation. We only use it to find your matches, with the explicit consent you give when you sign up.
• Other members see your profile, but never your email, phone number, date of birth or exact location. We store your city, never your GPS position.
• Your profile, photos and chats are stored in the EU, with Google Firebase. We don't sell your data, and there are no ads in FarFlirt.
• Analytics only run if you choose “Allow analytics”.
• You can download your data or delete your account in Settings at any time. For anything else, write to privacy@farflirt.com.

FarFlirt is a free dating app for people who want to meet someone from another country, at farflirt.com. In this policy, “FarFlirt”, “we” and “us” mean the person who runs it.

FarFlirt is run by an individual based in Lebanon. There's no company behind it yet. We decide how and why your personal data is used, which makes us its controller under data protection law.

Write to privacy@farflirt.com about privacy and your data, and to support@farflirt.com about anything else.

FarFlirt is run from outside the EU and the UK and is offered to people there. That means the GDPR and the UK GDPR (Article 27 in each) ask us to name a representative in the EU and one in the UK: a local contact for you and for data protection authorities.

We haven't appointed them yet. We will, and we'll list their names and contact details here. Until then, write to privacy@farflirt.com and we'll answer you directly.

When you have an account, we collect:

• Account details: your email address, your phone number if you sign in with it or verify it, how you sign in (email and password, Google, or a code sent by text message) and your date of birth. Your date of birth stays private, and other members only see your age. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication, and we never see them.
• Your profile: your first name, age, gender, who you'd like to meet and the ages you'd like to meet, the city and country you live in, the languages you speak, your travel plans and trips, the countries you'd love to visit, what you're open to (such as hosting visitors), your photos, bio, prompt answers and vibe quiz answers.
• Your city, never your GPS: we store the city you choose, with that city's position on the map and its time zone, so we can show your local time and send your Drop at 21:00 where you are. We never collect your exact location.
• What you do on FarFlirt: your likes and passes, your matches and Drops, your messages and the photos you send in chats, the Country Nights you take a seat at and what you write in their group chats, and the people you report or block.
• Your Word: a behaviour score built from what you do, such as replying to a new match within 24 hours, closing a chat politely, or going quiet for five days in an active chat. Other members only see whether you have the “Keeps their word” badge, never the number.
• Verification selfies: if you choose to get verified, the selfie you send. We delete it as soon as our team has reviewed it.
• Safety records: reports you make or that others make about you, and our decisions, such as a warning, a ban or marking an account as a scam.
• Device and technical data: your IP address in our server logs, and your browser type.
• Notification settings: which notifications and emails you want and, if you turn on push notifications, your browser's push subscription (a technical address for sending notifications to that browser).
• Analytics, only with your OK: which pages are visited, how features are used and basic information about your device, if you choose “Allow analytics”.

In demo mode, without an account, your demo profile, matches and chats stay in your browser. They're never saved in our database.

• From you, when you sign up, fill in your profile, use FarFlirt or write to us.
• From Google, if you sign in with your Google account: your email address and basic account details.
• From other members: the messages they send you, their likes, and reports they make about you.
• From FarFlirt itself: what our systems work out, such as your matches and Drops, your Word, scam warnings and moderation decisions.
• From your browser: technical data it sends when you use FarFlirt, such as your IP address and browser type.

The law asks us to have a legal basis for everything we do with your data. Here's what we do, and the basis for each.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we've weighed them against your rights, and you can object at any time (see Your rights). Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and that doesn't affect what we did before.

We don't sell your personal data. There are no ads inside FarFlirt. We advertise FarFlirt itself on social media, and if we ever add advertising tracking pixels to our website, they'll only run if you allow them.

Who you'd like to meet can reveal your sexual orientation. Data protection law treats this as a special category of personal data that needs extra protection.

• We only use it to find your matches. FarFlirt only suggests people who'd like to meet each other, so we need it to show you the right people and to show you to them.
• We ask for your explicit consent when you sign up, with a box you tick yourself. We don't use this data for anything else, and never for advertising.
• Matching works both ways, so the people you're shown to can tell that you'd like to meet people of their gender.
• You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account in Settings. FarFlirt can't suggest matches without it.

Your photos, bio, prompts and messages can say sensitive things too, such as your religion or your health. Only share what you're comfortable with other members seeing.

• Your profile: your first name, age, city and country, photos, bio, prompt answers, languages, upcoming trips, what you're open to, the countries you'd love to visit, and your badges (Verified and “Keeps their word”). They also see a short note on why you might match, worked out from both profiles.
• Never your email address, phone number, date of birth, exact Word score or exact location.
• Profiles are only visible to signed-in members. They're never public and never shown in search engines.
• Your messages are seen by the person you're chatting with. Messages in a Country Night are seen by everyone in that room.
• Our team can see messages when we review a report or look into a safety problem, such as a scam.

We share your data only in these cases:

• Other members see your profile and the messages you send them, as described above.
• Companies that run parts of FarFlirt for us and handle your data on our behalf:
  • Google, through Firebase: Firebase Authentication for signing in (including text messages with sign-in codes, and reCAPTCHA checks against bots when you use a phone number), Cloud Firestore for our database, Cloud Storage for photos and verification selfies, Cloud Functions for jobs like the nightly Drop, and Google Analytics for Firebase if you allow analytics.
  • Railway, which hosts our website and the server that handles translations.
• Google's Gemini API, for translation. When you tap Translate, or turn on Auto-translate for a chat, the text of those messages goes to Google, which sends back the translation. Our server keeps translations in memory for a short time, so the same message isn't sent twice. If the person you're chatting with translates your messages, your text is sent the same way. Some browsers can translate on your device instead, and then the text doesn't leave it.
• Your browser's push service, if you turn on notifications: Google for Chrome and Android, Apple for Safari and iPhone, Mozilla for Firefox. The text of each notification passes through that service.
• Authorities: we share data with the police, courts or other authorities only when the law requires it. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
• A new operator: if FarFlirt becomes a company, or is ever sold, your data would move to the new operator, who would have to respect this policy. We'll tell you before that happens.

Your profile, photos and chats are stored in the European Union:

• Our database (Cloud Firestore) is in Google's EU multi-region, in Belgium and the Netherlands.
• Photos and verification selfies (Cloud Storage) are in Google's EU multi-region.
• Our server jobs (Cloud Functions) run in Google's region in Belgium.
• Our website is served by Railway from its EU West region in Amsterdam.

Transfers outside the EU and the UK

Google, for Firebase and Gemini, and Railway may process some of your data outside the EU and the UK, including in the USA. Those transfers are protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK addendum for data from the UK.

FarFlirt itself is run from Lebanon. When we review reports or verification selfies, we view that data from there.

• While your account is open, we keep your data so FarFlirt works for you.
• When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, likes, matches, chats and the rest of your data within 30 days. Copies in our backups can last up to 30 more days before they're gone.
• Verification selfies are deleted as soon as they've been reviewed, whether they're approved or not.
• Reports and moderation records, such as bans, may be kept for up to two years, to keep the community safe and stop banned people from coming back.
• Server logs, including IP addresses, are kept for 30 days.
• Analytics data, if you allowed it, is kept by Google Analytics for no longer than 14 months.
• If the law requires us to keep something for longer, for example for a legal claim, we keep only what's needed, for as long as it's needed.

Wherever you live, you can:

• See your data and get a copy of it (access).
• Correct it if it's wrong or incomplete (rectification).
• Delete it (erasure).
• Limit how we use it, for example while we look into a complaint (restriction).
• Take it with you in a format other services can read (portability).
• Object to how we use it where we rely on legitimate interests. We'll stop unless we have compelling reasons to continue, such as keeping someone safe.
• Withdraw your consent at any time, for analytics, notifications, email updates or matching on who you'd like to meet. It doesn't affect what we did before.
• Complain to a data protection authority, usually the one where you live or work. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

How to use them

• You can do most of it yourself. Edit your profile at any time, use “Download my data” in Settings to get your data as a JSON file, and use “Delete account” in Settings to delete your account and your data.
• For anything else, write to privacy@farflirt.com. We'll answer within one month. If a request is complex, we may need up to two more months, and we'll tell you why within the first month.
• To protect your data, we may ask you to confirm it's really you, for example by writing from the email address on your account.
• It's free, and we'll never treat you differently for using your rights.

If you have a concern, please write to us first so we can put it right. You can always go straight to your data protection authority too.

Canada

Under PIPEDA you can access and correct your personal information and withdraw your consent, subject to legal limits. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Australia

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can access and correct your personal information. If you're not happy with how we handle a request or complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

United States

Depending on your state, including California under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what we collect and why, to access, correct and delete it, to limit how sensitive information is used, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we only use sensitive information, like who you'd like to meet, to run FarFlirt for you.

FarFlirt keeps a few things in your browser. Most are needed for it to work, and one is up to you.

• Essential, always on: keeping you signed in (Firebase Authentication stores your session in your browser), the app data FarFlirt keeps in your browser (in demo mode, the whole demo), files the app saves so it opens quickly and can show a page when you're offline, and your cookie choice, saved under the name ff:cookies. When you use a phone number to sign in or verify, Google's reCAPTCHA may also store data to check you're not a bot. FarFlirt can't work without these, so they don't need your consent.
• Analytics, only if you allow it: if you choose “Allow analytics”, we load Google Analytics for Firebase, which sets cookies such as _ga to count visits and see how FarFlirt is used. With “Only essential”, it doesn't run.
• Advertising: none. There are no advertising cookies or pixels. If we ever add advertising pixels to our website, they'll only run if you allow them.

You can change your choice at any time. “Cookie settings” at the bottom of this page, and of every page on our website, opens the banner again.

If you turn on push notifications, for example for your Drop or new messages, we store your notification settings and your browser's push subscription, a technical address for sending notifications to that browser.

Notifications are delivered by your browser's push service: Google for Chrome and Android, Apple for Safari and iPhone, Mozilla for Firefox. The text of each notification passes through that service on its way to you. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings, or in your browser or phone settings.

“Email updates” in Settings is off unless you turn it on. If you do, we may send you occasional news from FarFlirt, and you can turn it off again at any time.

Some things in FarFlirt are worked out automatically:

• Matching. Your Drop and the order of people in Browse come from an automatic score. It looks at your vibe answers, travel plans and trips, the countries you'd love to visit, what you're open to, the languages you share, what you're looking for, how recently someone was active and your Word. We only suggest people who'd like to meet each other and fit each other's age range.
• Your Word. It's built automatically from what you do, such as replying within 24 hours, closing chats politely or going quiet for five days. It affects who is shown first and whether you get the “Keeps their word” badge. Other members only see the badge, never the number.
• Scam checks. Messages are checked automatically for requests for money, and for links and contact details early in a chat. The checks only show a warning in the chat. Suspensions, bans and scam labels are always decided by a person on our team.

None of this has legal or similarly significant effects on you. It shapes who you see first, and you can always look through Browse yourself. If you'd like to know more about how it works, or want to object, write to privacy@farflirt.com.

FarFlirt is only for adults. You must be 18 or older to join, and FarFlirt asks for your date of birth when you sign up. If we find an account that belongs to someone under 18, we remove it. If you think a member is under 18, please report them: choose “May be under 18” when you report.

• Access rules on our database mean members can only see what they're meant to, such as profiles and the chats they're part of. Only our team can open reports, and only you and our team can see your verification selfie.
• Encryption in transit: everything between your device, our website and Firebase travels over encrypted HTTPS connections.
• Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication. We never see or store them.
• Verification selfies are deleted as soon as they've been reviewed.

No online service can promise perfect security. If a data breach puts you at risk, we'll tell you, and the authorities, as the law requires.

We'll update this policy when FarFlirt or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make an important change, we'll tell you in the app before it applies, and if a change needs your consent, we'll ask for it again.
